Double page spread photos

Afternoon, as with every other group our group has split it self into a certain number of sections and given ourselves a chosen section, my group was split into music, film, fashion and culture and i chose film as i feel it can go nicely with my film studies course.

Any how as a first off the cuff idea i had chosen to do a article on my version of the top 10 action films, this was mainly because i had an great idea for the front cover. So i went with that idea for a bit until realised that our magazine is more about alternative entities so with that i swiftly changed my idea as action films are more 'mainstream' and common. So i decided to do an article on alternative films, this posed a problem... what is an alternative film? Sir had suggested short films but i have minimal experience with them so i feel it would not of gone too well, so i thought an alternative film would be one that deviates from the norm, thus resulting in me deciding on 'cult films' as they are quirky and off the wall and also a rarity. So i made a list of some of my favorite cult films and scanned the internet for others and made a list of 10. How ever i may not do the whole top 10 thing any more more, i might just write about them and how they gained their cult status etc... suggestions?

For photos i decided to recreate some scenes from cult films, this turned out to be really fun as i rallied round some friends, props and costumes and took some photos.

Reservoir Dogs

Tada.

Thats like one photo out of about 8.

Title font

We have a pretty decent name, so to go with our pretty decent name we decided we need a pretty decent font.

Alas!

Our Nang Logo

We like this because we feel that it enables hundreds of different colour combinations to suit the magazine covers and our individual tastes. We also like it because it stems from one of our influences of 'Pop Magazine'

We liked the idea of our title looking like a logo as well as a mast head as it is even more easier to recognise this way. 'Pop' is one of our influences (as well as Flux magazine previously mentioned) as we like the way in which its minimalistic style and focus on quality photographs makes it stand out against its competitors and other magazines that go for more 'busy' front covers. It also appeals to us most in terms of a magazine. The lack of text and headlines on the front cover ironically acts as bait to readers as it lures in readers with its artistic black and white photo opening the curiosity in the hope that it is picked up by a curious passer by.

Photos!

Few weeks back Mr White asked us to develop an 'eye' for photography.

We already had it :P

We like this one because it is open to several different interpretations. For instance Sylvia sees it as a giant attacking the school with a super size pen, best not to ask...

Alex sees it as a pupil facing up against the ominous looking school and as the school is shot from a lower angle it makes the school look even bigger and posing a great danger.

Tom and Daniel arent here so well ermm there opinions are of no value :D

This picture was planned but came out a lot better than expected, mainly because we were actually just messing around. The 'A+' obviously looks like the Anarchy symbol this was not intended but we feel it makes the picture look better and adds more meaning to it. Especially as it is on a test paper in a school it gives connotations of rebellion which juxtaposes the literal meaning of a top grade exam paper. I also like the haribo bear because he looks like he approves the picture. Nabiel just pointed out to us the empty 'coke bag' in the top right corner, draw your own conclusions.

Safe.

Peace Out - Sylvia & Alex
